A 2021 law (effective 2022) ended Hawaii's high-cost deferred-deposit payday loans and replaced them with a regulated small-installment loan product under stricter cost limits. Traditional single-payment payday lending is no longer offered. Remaining small-dollar credit is more tightly regulated and intended for short-term needs.
